Sergio Ramos has returned to his boyhood club Sevilla after 18 years away. The 37-year-old defender left Sevilla in 2005 to join Real Madrid, where he went on to win five La Liga titles, four Champions League titles, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Ramos was a free agent after his contract with PSG expired at the end of last season. He was reportedly offered a lucrative contract by Saudi club Al Ittihad, but he opted to return to Sevilla.
“It’s a very special day, returning home is always a tremendous joy,” Ramos said. “I was eager to return home. It made no sense to go anywhere else without passing through here.”
Ramos will be a key player for Sevilla as they look to improve their fortunes in La Liga. The club is currently bottom of the table after three matches.
Ramos is a legendary figure in Spanish football. He has won 180 caps for Spain, scoring 23 goals. He was part of the team that won the European Championship twice (2008 and 2012) and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
His return to Sevilla is a major coup for the club. He is a proven winner and a leader on the pitch. He will be a valuable asset to Sevilla as they look to challenge for trophies in the years to come.
