Roy Rodriguez speaks after he and his wife were injured when Denny’s restaurant in Rosenberg was hit by SUV

ROSENBERG, Texas – Roy Rodriguez and his wife were enjoying a Labor Day meal at Denny’s in Rosenberg when an SUV crashed through the building and landed in the dining area. Roy said he heard a loud bang and thought someone was shooting.

When he looked up, the car was right next to him. The impact sent tables, glass, and chairs flying across the room, and 23 people were injured.

Roy was trapped under a table, and his wife was stuck in a booth. Someone helped Roy’s wife out, but he had to wait for help to get out himself. His wife suffered a deep cut to her leg, and Roy had several deep cuts on his arm.

Rosenberg police say some of the victims were as young as 12 years old. One woman said her 16-year-old nephew and his parents were injured in the crash. They have broken ribs and pelvic injuries, but everyone is expected to survive.

Police do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
