Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, has discreetly finalized his divorce from Nicole Shanahan, an entrepreneur and attorney, amid rumors of her alleged affair with billionaire Elon Musk.
According to court documents, the divorce was finalized on May 26, 2023, and Brin and Shanahan will share both legal and physical custody of their four-year-old daughter. Shanahan did not oppose the divorce but requested spousal support from the court. Other matters such as attorney fees and asset division were resolved through confidential arbitration.
Brin and Shanahan began dating in 2015 and got married in 2018. However, they separated in 2021 and started living apart. Brin filed for divorce in 2022, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
The divorce comes amid rumors of an affair between Shanahan and Musk, a long-time friend of Brin’s. Both Musk and Shanahan have denied the allegations.
In a tweet, Musk said that he is still friends with Brin and that he has only seen Shanahan twice in the past three years. Shanahan has also denied the allegations, calling them “utterly debilitating.”
Despite the denials, the Wall Street Journal has stood by its reporting, expressing confidence in its sources.
The divorce is a personal setback for Brin, who is currently the ninth richest person in the world with a net worth of $118 billion. Shanahan is a California-based attorney and the founder and president of the Bia-Echo Foundation.
