Lucas Richards, a US missionary, has been arrested in Liberia for the attempted murder of his pregnant Liberian girlfriend, Jessica Lloyd.
Richards, who is married and has a wife in the US, impregnated Lloyd during his missionary work. He then allegedly attempted to murder her by slitting her throat and injecting her with a substance to cause a miscarriage.
Lloyd’s mother, Cynthia Lloyld, said that the incident happened weeks after her daughter became pregnant for Richards.
Richards’ church, Creekside Church, released a message on Facebook saying that he had been attacked and robbed in Liberia. Richards himself denied the allegations, saying that Lloyd was hit by a moving vehicle and that he was attacked by angry motorcyclists who accused him of trying to kill her.
However, the Liberian police have arrested Richards on charges of attempted murder and have said that they have overwhelming evidence against him.
