Maddow: Trump Supporters Trying to Overthrow Democracy with Violence and Threats (VIDEO)

In a scathing attack, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow accused Donald Trump’s supporters of continuing to attempt to overthrow American democracy and elections through intimidation.

On her Monday show, Maddow pointed to Republican efforts in North Carolina to take over election boards, restrictive election laws in Texas, and MAGA attacks on election workers as evidence of this ongoing threat. She also noted that radical, right-wing violence has expanded to include threats against the National Archives, the FBI, the IRS, and elected officials like Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT).

Maddow argued that Trump’s “overheated public statements have led his followers to commit violence or to threaten violence on his behalf.” She cited a number of recent examples, including threats against Fulton County officials, the FBI, judges, grand jurors, and prosecutors in Trump cases, and a federal prosecutor in the Hunter Biden investigation. She also mentioned that public health workers and the head of the CDC have received death threats.

Maddow also cited a new biography about Romney that reveals that a number of GOP colleagues were willing to vote to convict Trump of impeachment, but they were too scared of what might happen to themselves or their families. She said that if threats of violence suffocate public life, public service, and even regular citizen participation in regular politics, then normal people will steer clear of politics and public service.
